So happy cause it meant that i finally get to rest after the hectic three days of work and school. I was supposed to take a wonderful nap but i was easily distracted by the television. It was the Discovery channel then, and it was all about ninjas. I was so engrossed in it that i decided that my nap could wake till i finished the documentary.
According to the documentary, ninjas were claimed to have abilities far more superior of a normal being. With the ability to stealth and become invisible. That was all that people percieved the ninja's to behave.This programme, Unsolved History: Ninjas then aims to solve this mystery and history of the ninja.
Ninjas as a group first began to be written about in 15th century feudal Japan as martial organizations predominately in the regions of Iga and Kogaa of central Japan, though the practice of guerrilla warfare and undercover espionage operations goes back much further.
At this time, the conflicts between the clans of daimyo that controlled small regions of land had established guerrilla warfare and assassination as a valuable alternative to frontal assault.Since Bushido, the Samurai Code, forbade such tactics as dishonorable,a daimyo could not expect his own troops to perform the tasks required; thus, he had to buy or broker the assistance of ninja to perform selective strikes, espionage, assassination, and infiltration of enemy strongholds.
There are a few people and groups of people regarded as having been potential historical ninja from approximately the same time period. It is rumored that some of the higher-ranking daimyos and shoguns were in fact ninja, and exploited their role as ninja-hunters to deflect suspicion and obscure their participation in the 'dishonorable' ninja methods and training.
The ninja use of stealth tactics against better-armed enemy samurai does not mean that they were limited to espionage and undercover work: that is simply where their actions most notably differed from the more accepted tactics of samurai. Their weapons and tactics were partially derived from the need to conceal or defend themselves quickly from samurai, which can be seen from the similarities between many of their weapons and various sickles and threshing tools used at the time.
I got these basic information of ninjas from wikipedia. But the show goes more to show how a ninja fights in combat with the help of a specialist in ninjutsu. The Weapons that ninjas used were actually improvised tools used for agriculture, and these tools can be easily concealed from an opponent. And even if a samurai was to see what the weapon the ninja is using, he will not be able to predict how will be used cause samurials are only trained in sword combat.
The warlords then will work together to eliminate these ninjas from causing trouble in their turf. All but one warlord that chose a different approach towards the ninjas, he chose to recruit them and hire them as high offical body guards. These body guards were then disguised as someone unsuspicious like garderners around the area. Because their weapons are actually tools, their gardening tools were least likely to be suspected as weapons.
But what really amazed me about the documentary was the espionage part of ninjas. They claimed that ninjas had some clairvoyance abilities and are able to do remote viewing. So they decided to prove if it is really true that ninjas do have psychic powers. They got a group of people who are able to do remote viewing. They had to actually do remote viewing at the same time a break in was carried out. The reuslts were extremely positive, 50% of them were able to pinpoint the rough location of the hostage and one managed to get it correct. On top of that, they were able to produce very accurate and prominent features of the house as well. They did all these without having even seen or been to the house before.
